Frequently Asked Questions

blank
Where do you get your specimens?
All specimens are sourced sustainably and are legally obtained. The mice, rabbits and rats are purchased from reptile feeder suppliers. Birds are donated from various sources such as residential chicken keepers who are not able to keep roosters and would otherwise dispose of them. No birds or animals are harmed for the purposes of these classes.
What is included in the class?

Classes include approximately 8-10 hours of instruction, specimen to keep and a basic mount/base.  A PDF instruction booklet will be provided via email after the course.   Morning tea/light refreshments are included along with tea/coffee and bottled water during the day.  Lunch is BYO.

How many students are in a class?
Class size is generally limited to a maximum of four students to ensure that everyone receives a high level of support and instruction. This optimized learning environment ensures that each student walks away with a quality mount they can be proud of.
What do I need to bring?

Bring a packed lunch and snacks for during the day. Students need to wear enclosed shoes and comfortable clothing.  Bring a bag or box to take home your completed piece, a camera/smartphone to take photos throughout the day and a notepad and pen in case you want to take any notes.

Do I need any prior experience?
No prior experience is required, however it is recommended to take a beginner workshop before signing up for an intermediate workshop.
Where are classes held?
Classes are held at the Eternal Creatures Studio at Lauren’s private home in Banyo on Brisbane’s North side. Plenty of street parking is available.
I'm under 18, can I still do a class?
All ages are welcome to participate, however students under 12 need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian who is able to assist if needed. Please note that we will be working with sharp scalpels, so good fine motor skills are required.
Can I supply my own specimen?
Students can supply their own specimen by arrangement and in accordance with any permit/licensing requirements when they undertake a custom one on one course.
Terms and conditions
Classes are non-refundable unless cancelled by Eternal Creatures. If you book a class but are unable to attend you can transfer your booking to another person or reschedule to another class to be held within six weeks of the original booking.

Testimonials

I had a Taxidermy beginners course with Lauren, she taught me how to do a mouse and it was one of the best experiences I've ever had. The environment is very friendly and comfortable which lends to picking up what you're being taught easily. Lauren was very inviting into her workshop and seeing her other pieces of work was amazing, and really inspired me to want to continue to learn. The passion I have for Taxidermy has grown thanks to Lauren and I can't wait to continue learning this amazing art!

I signed up for a days course to learn how to preserve a bunny with Lauren in her lovely studio in Banyo QLD. Lauren was very inviting and made you feel extremely comfortable with her professional and patient approach to teaching this amazing trade. She is a brilliant artist which shows in her extensive portfolio of previous works which she was more than happy to show and I have and will continue to recommend her to friends, family and new people I meet. I wish her all the success she deserves with preserving the beautiful creatures of this world with this niche art she has developed via mentoring and training from some of the world's best taxidermists.

Ben Petrovich, Brisbane, Australia

I recently did a pigeon taxidermy class with the beautiful Lauren. Her knlowledge on taxidermy and technique is endless and shes just an all round awesome chick. She told me all about her work and i've even seen her work in Hollywood films and local tv shows. She was so warm, welcoming and funny and her skill and creativity is outstanding. Would definitely recommend her work and her workshops to anybody and have already booked in to do a mouse workshop where she's going to help me create my own artworks. Get involved. You wont be disappointed.

I had the most amazing class with Lauren. Her lessons were filled with great professional insight, hints and the product I took home was amazing. We had lovely conversation, beautiful morning tea and lunch and the small intimate class size was a really great learning environment that was really relaxing. Thank you so much.

What an incredible experience we had, and what am incredible person Lauren is. Her expertise and passion shines through, her care and attention to detail is evident in all the steps we took together. My daughter and I did the rat taxidermy day course, and I can’t recommend Lauren enough! She was an absolute gem, and my daughter and I have a beautiful piece each that we treasure. Thanks so much to Lauren.

Lara M, Australia

By far the best workshop I have ever had the pleasure of attending. Lauren was well organised, polite, attentive, and executed the class at a perfect pace and patience, which enabled her to spend time with each of us. The studio was well equipped and clean, and the specimens were nice and healthy. Runtime is 9 hours but we were encouraged to stay and work on the final touches to our pieces if need be. Even with my morbid experiences with my employment and studies, I was still pleasantly surprised at the process of it all and highly recommend it for those who want to learn about taxidermy, or for those who want to try something different. I can't wait to attend the next class. Thanks Lauren!🙂🙏
