THE EARLY YEARS

Having grown up living in Australia, Africa and Canada, Lauren developed a love for and fascination with wildlife and the amazing variety of creatures that exist from one continent to the next.

TAXIDERMY TRAINING

After discovering her natural talent and ability for taxidermy at a one day squirrel taxidermy workshop in San Francisco, she subsequently found a 40-year veteran taxidermist in Fremont, California, Geoff Vassallo, who was willing to take her on as an apprentice.

VOLUNTEER WORK

Lauren has also undertaken volunteer work with, and been mentored by Oakland Museum of California Taxidermist, Alicia Goode

PRESENT DAY

She is now based back in her Brisbane studio and has established “Eternal Creatures” through which she offers taxidermy services and training in the Brisbane region

I NEVER IMAGINED I’D FIND MY PASSION IN A TAXIDERMY STUDIO… CREATING ART CAPABLE OF INSPIRING WONDER, PUTTING SMILES ON PEOPLE’S FACES AND OCCASIONALLY EVEN TEARS IN THEIR EYES WHEN IT’S TIME FOR A BELOVED PET TO RETURN HOME… IT’S MORE THAN A JOB.  IT IS A CALLING THAT HAS TOUCHED MY LIFE PROFOUNDLY.

the EARLy YEARS

Growing up I had the privilege of spending time living in Kenya, Australia and Canada with extensive travel in between.  I was exposed to wildlife across the continents from an early age which has led to a lifelong fascination with the beauty of nature.

Life led me to San Francisco in 2014 where I was taken on as an apprentice by a 40 year veteran taxidermist who trained me in both traditional and modern techniques covering birds, small mammals and large game, fish and reptiles. Methods ranging from traditional wrapping of forms, to carving and casting forms, freeze drying and vintage taxidermy restoration.

I also had the opportunity of being mentored by Oakland Museum of California Taxidermist, Alicia Goode and received training in the traditional methods of specimen preservation for museum collections, skeletal articulation and conservation techniques.

I have also been a volunteer taxidermist for America’s first wildlife refuge, the Rotary Nature Centre in Oakland, where I prepared taxidermy mounts and study skins for displays at the Centre, and delivered live taxidermy demonstrations to the public.

Now based back in my Brisbane studio “Eternal Creatures”,  I offer taxidermy services and training in the Brisbane and South East Queensland region.

During the week I work on commissioned pieces for clients and each month I hold weekend taxidermy training workshops in the Brisbane region.  I strive for continuous improvement and go above and beyond to provide the highest quality mounts with meticulous attention to detail.
